Day Master in BaZi
Your Day Master (日主) is the Heavenly Stem of your day pillar — the single character that represents “you” in a BaZi chart. Every other character is interpreted by how it relates to your Day Master.
The ten Day Masters
- There are ten Day Masters, one for each Heavenly Stem: Yang and Yin Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal and Water.
- Wood Day Masters tend toward growth and benevolence; Fire toward warmth and expression; Earth toward stability and trust; Metal toward principle and resolve; Water toward wisdom and adaptability — always shaded by yin/yang and the rest of the chart.
Strong vs weak Day Master
- A reading judges whether your Day Master is well-supported (strong) or under-supported (weak) by the surrounding elements and season.
- That judgment points to the “useful god” — the element your chart most benefits from — which guides timing and advice.
